How to file an appeal with the BMZA

The Zoning Administrator receives, files, and then forwards to the BMZA all applications for conditional uses, variances, appeals, and other matters on which the Board is required to act.  The Zoning Administrator determines the use, lot, and bulk regulations.

TIPS FOR COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION
  • All applicants must complete the required application, see link above, in its entirety, including phone numbers and emails for the owner and the applicant.   
  • Applications are accepted in "hard copy" only either by hand delivery to or mailed to Zoning Administrator, Baltimore City, 417 E. Fayette Street, Room 147, Baltimore MD 21202.  
  • Under the section titled "Appeal Information" - "Describe Reason for Appeal", applicants MUST identify EXACTLY the relief requested as required by the Code.  For example, a variance requires information about the type of variance, the amount or distance of the variance and/or reference to the applicable bulk regulation. For a sign, you just identify the sign type, size and location.
  • Include an accurate site plan and floor plan, if applicable, showing existing improvements, proposed improvements and distances from lot lines, height, lot coverage, etc.
  •  Fees must be paid by check made payble to the Director of Finance at the time the application is submitted.
